ch.wikipedia.org refers to the Chamoru language Wikipedia, not the Swiss Wikipedia

[edit source]

Do not add any articles in Swiss German!

English

[edit source]

ch.wikipedia.org is not the Swiss Wikipedia.

Deutsch

[edit source]

ch.wikipedia.org ist nicht die Schweizer Wikipedia.

Old Disussions

[edit source]

Sorry for writing in English. Is there any objection to this wiki being redirected to the ch-portal? Angela 11:59, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Or better yet, maybe the portal should be moved to ch.wikipedia.org? Ausir
This is unacceptable. This Wikipedia is reserved for the Chamorro language, the native language of Guam and Saipan. Under no condition should it redirect to anything having to do with Switzerland.

The problem is, here a lot of pages and lemmas (and vandalism) are written in german or swiss german and they have always to be deleted... --194.9.121.83 09:27, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

. ch is the abbreviation for switzerland

[edit source]

and there is in my opinion no difference between www.company.ch and ch.wikipedia.org.

In both cases I see the characters "ch" and it remembers me to Switzerland.

So I think "ch" should be reserved for pages written in the typical "Swiss" languages.

kh

No. The language codes used for the several Wikimedia projects are ISO-639-2 standard and "ch" is the code for Chamorro. So everything goes right. --Thogo 14:45, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

CH: Chamorro or Switzerland?

[edit source]

Why is ch.wikipedia.org not the Swiss Wikipedia? --88.77.228.212 13:27, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

shouldn't ch.wikipedia.org be china wikipedia. ch is china's internet code!?

Because Wikipedia have language editions, not country editons. The letter code is refering to the ISO 639-1 code for languages and the ISO language code ch stands for Chamorro. There isn't a Canadian Wikipedia either (ca.wikipedia is in Catalan), and se.wikipedia is not the Swedish Wikipedia (it is in Northern Sami). --Jorunn 23:12, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I do not want to discuss if it is optimal that wikipedia is using an ISO-standard that does not use ch.wikipedia.org for a swiss edition.
!But: As long as the mainpage of ch.wikipedia.org only has that few content, there is enough space to add the disclaimer from below on this discussion page to the article. That would spare many people many minutes: people who are looking for a swiss edition, people who add to ch.wikipedia.org swiss articles whom the not intuitive structure hinders effectivly the wikipedia-principles to work ('make it easy for everyone to add knowledge'); and of course it would save so much minutes for the admins and editors (and some whiners) that complain about 'vandalism' on ch.wikipedie.org: Just think, so many less wrongly added articles, just because there are two lines of info on the main page that this is not the swiss edition of wikipedia, but they better need to look at the links ...! If there are no plausible objections against, I will add tomorrow some lines on the main-page of ch.wikipedia.org. As said, as long as there is nearly no content on that page, I cannot see a reason why not sparing many people much time. Greetings JoeSmith --212.23.126.20 17:56, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I have moved the German language notification to the Main Page. There is zero need for an English language notice directed at Swiss German speakers; if users don't understand enough German to understand "this is not German Wikipedia" then they almost certainly don't speak enough German to be looking for German Wikipedia. That said, I don't suppose there is any chance of moving this wiki to cha, just to avoid this pointless maintenance task? - BanyanTree 08:27, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi!
You should add "This is not the Swiss Wikipedia", as it is more likely that people coming here looking for the "Chamoru Wikipedia" will understand English but not German. Thus they would very likely soon remove the German text, as they couldn't even possible know what it means. ForJosie 06:17, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Hello, We certainly don't have a problem of too many Chamoru speakers, so I'm willing to take the risk. if it turns out to be an issue, I can always figure out how to say "This is not German Wikipedia" in Chamorro and add it, which is a better choice than English. - BanyanTree 06:59, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
That's true. :P Greetings 212.23.103.109 00:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Changing toolboxes

[edit source]

How do edit the toolboxes on the sides of the pages? I would like to change everything into Chamorro, but I can't figure out how to edit them. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gadao01 (talk • contribs) Jatrobat 02:59, 18 April 2008 (UTC). Time and date: 20:30, 17 April 2008.

Hola Gadao01, existen dos maneras de hacerse:

Small request

[edit source]

Hello! I am a Polish wikipedian and I would like to ask you for your help - writing a new article about former Polish President who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 – Lech Wałęsa. I have looked for his biography in your Wikipedia but without success. Polish Wikipedians will be grateful for your help. Thank you so much in advance! PS you can find the English version of the article here. Best wishes from Poland, Patrol110 16:36, 26 Disiembre 2009 (UTC)[reply]

connectivity project

[edit source]

Hallo, my name is Anastasiya Lvova, I'm "duty" in Connectivity project. The essence of the "Connectivity" project is to study and enhance the coherence of Wikipedia, or, in other words, to improve hypertext navigation between articles. The project deals with deadends, isolated articles, non-categorized articles, transitivity of the category tree, etc.

We want to work with your language version, but we need configured MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage for it (with direct links to template namespace pages, for example, ru:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/de:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/fr:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage). Is it possible to set it up for our usage?

thanks in advance, Lvova 18:39, 13 Hunio 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not understanding, what do you want us to do? -- Diego Grez (kombetsation) 18:42, 13 Hunio 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I want you'll 1) create MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage 2) with wikified ([[ ... ]]) list of templates that marks disambigations pages in this wiki. That's all... Lvova 08:15, 14 Hunio 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two bots migrated the interlanguage links provided on main page to Wikidata item Q5296 ([1], [2]), however, inbetween User:Delusion23 added magic word "noexternallanglinks" to "limit number of lang links" ([3]). So now the number of lang links is limited to the number of interwiki links still provided here locally - and that's 0. I don't know exactly what was intended (probably freezing the 112 links provided back then), but something went wrong... --YMS (talk) 20:02, 29 Matso 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked the bot operator: m:User_talk:Legoktm#Hmm.3F. BTW, I doubt many people are watching this wiki. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:27, 31 Matso 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note, I undid the bot. There was a bug where it didn't properly recognize "noexternallanglinks", but that has been fixed now. Legoktm (talk) 03:34, 31 Matso 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion for spam article

[edit source]

I added a proposed deletion tag to a recently published article which is blatantly spam: Ball. However, it appears that that tag hasn't been/doesn't transfer over from the English Wikipedia. The title is in English, and the content is Spanish which translates to "suck my dick." I'm putting this here because I'm still new to editing and I don't know what the proper procedure is to handle articles like this. Vivian S Zitek (talk) 05:47, 3 Nobiembre 2023 (UTC)[reply]
